NORTH Wales Assembly Member Mark Isherwood met with the Deputy Chief Commissioner of Girlguiding Cymru, Viv Craig, who lives in Flintshire, at this week’s Royal Welsh Show

Mr Isherwood, who is an Ambassador for Girlguiding Clwyd, which stretches from the North Coast of Wales, South to Corwen and from the English/Welsh border as far as Colwyn Bay, was invited to the Girlguiding Cymru Stand at the show to discuss Girldguiding Cymru’s Project ‘Jubilee Vision’.

Her Majesty the Queen is the patron of Girlguiding UK and Girlguiding Cymru wisher to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee by undertaking this special project, “Jubilee Vision” and so provide opportunities for young people, the local community and the general population as a whole.

“Deputy Chief Commissioner for Wales, Viv Craig,  who is the past Girlguiding Clwyd County Commissioner, told me that  Jubilee Vision is a project to deliver major refurbishments needed at Girlguiding Cymru’s Centre, Broneirion, and to allow children and young people who visit the centre to participate in more adventurous and exciting outdoor activities,” said Mr Isherwood.

“In Wales there are significant areas of deprivation. Girlguiding Cymru consider that providing a variety of exciting opportunities in a beautiful rural setting for all children and young people whatever their socioeconomic group will enhance their wellbeing.

“Girlguiding Cymru also manages Ynysgain outside Criccieth in North Wales and Girlguiding Clwyd has its own centre, Ty Clwyd, situated in the countryside, close to Abergele.

“It is now seven years since Viv Craig invited me to become an Ambassador for Girlguiding Clwyd  and I have been hugely impressed by their wide range of activities and achievements - and by their ambition for the children and young women in their charge.”

Mr Isherwood stressed that  Girlguiding is now the largest voluntary organisation for girls and young  women in the UK with 600,000 members, of whom 23,000 live in Wales.
